Overall Art Direction for Void Crew is Believable Sci Fi - Realistic with a Tactile feel. We call it Ancient Theme/ Technogyptian.
You are welcome to use any art direction for your modded assets that you would like. This documentation is for those of you who want to try matching Void Crew’s art direction when making your own assets.
Key Principles
Believable Sci-Fi (Grounded, functional, and plausible).
Tactile Realism (Everything should feel physical, usable, and touchable).
Contrast of Scale (Intimate interiors contrasted with overwhelming exterior space. Some environment elements may be oversized to reinforce scale).
Ancient Theme / Technogyptian
Inspiration from ancient Egyptian and Maya architecture, shape language and symbolism, with fusion of futuristic tech and ancient monumental forms.
Gold materials contrasted with blue/dark metals.
Motifs: Triangles, hexagons, circles + Glyphs and Reliefs.
Believability - Tactility - Shape vs Detail
Assets should reinforce human relatability / physical scale (Doors, stairs, seating, corridors must feel believable)
Tactile physical elements should be used in the environment (not only digital): Buttons, levers, switches, Railings, handles, screws and knobs.
Shape vs detail: Shape and silhouettes over detail + Simple vs complex balance
Environments Principles
Flow & Navigation (Clear direction using lighting, color, and shape. Create landmarks).
Room Identity
Engine: Dense
Corridor: Constrained
Controls: Readable
Three Factions
METEM: Gold materials contrast blue/dark metals. Triangles, hexagons, glyphs, reliefs.
HOLLOWS: Alien, abstract, incomprehensible. Black, cold tones, purple accents. Cubic, geometric shapes. Layers: weak spot (glowing), inner (soft circuitry), armor (dark shell).
REMNANTS. Exploration and optimism. White, yellow, red color palette. Rounded, functional shapes. NASA-inspired.
